Adam Peaty is taking an extended break after his Paris 2024 silver medal win. He's reflecting on his future, considering if he'll compete in Los Angeles 2028.

Adam Peaty has announced that he is taking an extended break following his silver medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He plans to use this time to reflect on whether he wants to compete in the next Olympics in Los Angeles 2028 .

The two-time Olympic champion is contemplating the possibility of qualifying for a fourth Olympics and aiming for a third individual gold medal. In a recent interview with The Times, Peaty shared that he intends to stay fit and train for the next two years. However, he also wants to focus on other priorities and find a balance between his work and personal life.

Peaty, who settled for silver in the men’s 100m breaststroke final in Paris after narrowly losing to Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi, expressed that this outcome does not bring him sadness. Despite the close margin of 0.02 seconds, he views the result positively. Reflecting on his recent struggles and the emotional toll of the sport, Peaty admitted that although swimming has been challenging, it has also given him purpose and joy.

Throughout his 20s, Peaty achieved remarkable success, breaking numerous records and winning medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events. He was the first swimmer to go under 26 seconds in the 50m breaststroke and under both 58 and 57 seconds in the 100m. By the time the Los Angeles Games arrive, he will be nearly 34 years old.

Peaty is uncertain about his motivation to compete at such a high level as he grows older. He acknowledges the sacrifices he has made, including strained relationships and missing significant life moments due to his rigorous training schedule. Despite his impressive list of achievements, including world championships, European titles, Commonwealth victories, and Olympic medals, Peaty feels he has nothing left to prove.
