1923 Season 2: Mirren and Ford Fight for the Ranch

Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are back for the second season of 1923, the popular prequel to Yellowstone. After the first season concluded in February 2023, the fate of the Dutton family remained uncertain, building anticipation for the new season. The teaser trailer opens with a gripping line from creator Taylor Sheridan: "In Montana, there's a war over my family's land. And they're losing it."

Season 2 brings a harsh winter to the Dutton ranch, creating new challenges for Jacob (played by Ford) and Cara (played by Mirren). With their family's legacy on the line and external threats growing, Spencer (played by Brandon Sklenar) embarks on a dangerous journey to protect them. Meanwhile, Alexandra (played by Julia Schlaepfer) sets off on a perilous voyage across the Atlantic to reunite with Spencer.

Joining the main cast are Jerome Flynn as the antagonist Banner Creighton and Darren Mann as Jack Dutton, Jacob’s grandson. Aminah Nieves plays Teonna Rainwater, a young Crow woman torn from her family and placed in a brutal residential school. Other cast members include Michelle Randolph, Sebastian Roché, Timothy Dalton, and Jennifer Carpenter.

In the first season's finale, Teonna escaped south with Runs His Horse (played by Michael Spears) and Pete Plenty Clouds (played by Cole Brings Plenty, who tragically passed away at 27). Jacob and Banner’s feud reignited, while Spencer found himself in legal trouble after throwing Prince Arthur (played by Bruce Davison) overboard. Meanwhile, Cara held onto a letter begging Spencer to come back before their fight was lost.

For those catching up, the Paramount Network is airing season 1 episodes weekly. Episode 102 will air on Sunday, February 15, with the following episodes airing two at a time over the next few Sundays.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923 serves as both a prequel to Yellowstone and a sequel to the earlier spinoff, 1883. Isabel May plays Elsa Dutton, who narrates 1923, connecting the two prequels. The characters in these stories are ancestors of John Dutton III (played by Kevin Costner) from Yellowstone.

Along with 1923, the Taylor Sheridan universe on Paramount+ features shows like Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and Lawmen: Bass Reeves. The second season of 1923 is scheduled to debut on February 23 on Paramount+.
