Survivor 47 debuts September 18 on CBS with a twist: no real showmances but intriguing fake ones, plus fresh conflicts and strategies. Preview exclusive photos now!

Romantic connections have long been a staple in Survivor. For instance, Amber Brkich and Boston Rob Mariano leveraged their relationship to secure the final two spots on Survivor: All-Stars, while Dee Valladares and Austin Li Coon used their flirtation to reach the final three on Survivor 45. On the other hand, Frannie Marin and Matt Blankinship couldn’t advance beyond the early jury phase on Survivor 44, despite their popular nerdy romance. Many couples have even been targeted because their joint influence was perceived as a threat.

These showmances, whether they succeed or fail, always draw significant attention from both players and audiences. As we look forward to Survivor 47, debuting September 18 on CBS, it appears that there may not be a typical showmance this season. Instead, the focus may be on a falsely perceived showmance.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jeff Probst, the show’s host and creator, shared that while no genuine showmance is expected, the season will feature the intriguing concept of a misinterpreted showmance. “You don’t need to be in a showmance for others to believe you are,” Probst explained. This could add an interesting twist to the game.

Which contestants might be at the center of this false romance? Check out the full Survivor 47 cast and make your predictions. Additionally, Probst was asked about the possibility of seeing the heated confrontations that marked the previous season, especially when players were deprived of comforts.

Probst confirmed that some degree of conflict among tribe members will be present this season. He highlighted a shift from traditional to new-era Survivor: “A significant difference in the new era is the individual player’s agency. Each contestant has a clear sense of their identity and goals, which can lead to internal strife within tribes.”

Probst finds the drama of these conflicts engaging but is even more interested in whether players can use these tensions to their advantage. “The real challenge is whether two players in conflict can turn their disagreement into a strategic asset,” he said. “Often, what seems like a conflict can be manipulated for mutual gain if approached cleverly.”

Could we be seeing some deceptive strategies this season? Probst hints that players will continue to adapt to the new era, using deeper strategies than what initially appears.
