In Singapore, where rain falls about 171 days a year, the InterContinental Singapore is offering a unique solution to keep guests' vacations enjoyable. Their “Rain Resist Bliss” package promises to compensate guests with a free night’s stay if their planned activities are disrupted by rain.
This idea stemmed from a conversation about luxury travel, where the hotel’s general manager, Andreas Kraemer, realized that ensuring good weather could be the next big trend. The package, however, has some conditions. The hotel will only offer the compensation if “rain duration exceeds 120 cumulative minutes within any 4-hour block of daylight.”
The offer is available only for guests staying in suites, which start at 850 SGD ($633) per night for junior suites and can go up to 4,500 SGD ($3,349) for the presidential suite. The reimbursement is provided as a voucher, redeemable for a stay at the hotel within six months, equivalent to one night’s rate in the guest's room category.
For those facing a rainy day in Singapore, Kraemer suggests indoor activities such as visiting the Asian Civilizations Museum, touring the Tiger Brewery, or shopping at the Kinokuniya bookstore.
Hotels worldwide are creating unique packages to distinguish themselves. For instance, a hotel in Bali has banned smartphones by the pool to help guests disconnect. Similarly, some hotels, including the Park Hyatt New York, offer specially designed rooms for optimal sleep, featuring amenities like white noise machines and weighted blankets.
