After months of sounding alarms about the risks of a second Donald Trump presidency, Ana Navarro, cohost of The View, surprised many by praising Marco Rubio, following speculation that he might be appointed to Trump’s cabinet. Navarro, a long-time Republican, expressed approval of Rubio despite their personal differences in recent years, emphasizing his qualifications and experience.
Navarro highlighted Rubio's extensive background in foreign relations in the Senate, noting that he understands Latin America, a region often overlooked in U.S. politics. She also praised Rubio's ability to speak Spanish and his knowledge of key regional issues, especially in countries like Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua, which she cares deeply about.
Despite her praise, Navarro admitted she was surprised by the potential appointment, particularly due to the history between Rubio and Trump during the 2016 election, when they traded insults. She pointed out that leaving a secure Senate seat to join a Trump administration—where turnover was high in the past—was a risky move, especially since Trump could fire anyone at any time.
Sara Haines also expressed a more positive outlook on the cabinet picks, noting that Trump’s choices so far had government experience, suggesting a more moderate direction for his second term. She emphasized that she would try not to focus on fears about Trump’s politics.
Navarro agreed, adding that the people Trump has appointed so far seem qualified. However, Sunny Hostin raised concerns about Kristi Noem, governor of South Dakota, due to a controversial past incident involving her killing her family’s dog. Navarro made a light-hearted comment in response, saying, "So, hide your nannies and your dogs."
In a separate announcement, Trump confirmed on Truth Social that he would not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to join his new administration. Trump thanked them both for their past service but clarified that they would not be part of his team in the upcoming term.
