Miley Cyrus revisits her Hannah Montana days at the D23 Expo, accepts Disney Legend award, and humorously apologizes for her provocative phase.

Miley Cyrus recently embraced her past as Hannah Montana and made amends with Mickey Mouse for her provocative phase following her Disney Channel career.

At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, the singer of “Flowers” was honored with the prestigious Disney Legend award, and she became emotional while receiving it. During her acceptance speech, Cyrus shared, “I’m going to reveal a little Disney Legend secret. I’m the one who tells you what you’re not supposed to know,” adding, “Legends get scared too. I’m scared right now, but the key is to push through the fear — and you can do that every day. It’s legendary to be afraid and still act.”

Cyrus humorously reflected on her early days with Disney, saying, “In 2005, Disney was working on revitalizing itself. That’s why they hired Bob Iger and me.” She reminisced about the excitement surrounding her Hannah Montana audition, noting the buzz at Disney’s Burbank office, where Disney Kids were reportedly created. She joked, “I wasn’t made in a lab, but if I was, there must have been a glitch between 2013 and 2016. Sorry, Mickey.”

After her time on Disney Channel as Hannah Montana, Cyrus sought to reinvent her public image, which led to controversy, including her infamous performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, where she twerked on Robin Thicke during “Blurred Lines.”

Among the other Disney Legends honored at the event were Angela Bassett, James L. Brooks, James Cameron, Jamie Lee Curtis, John Williams, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, and Harrison Ford, among others.

Lainey Wilson also paid tribute to Cyrus by performing “The Best of Both Worlds,” the iconic theme song from Hannah Montana.
