Emma Roberts dreams of playing Britney Spears in the new biopic. With Universal Pictures' film in development, fans eagerly await casting news and release date.

Emma Roberts is eagerly eyeing the potential role of Britney Spears in the upcoming biopic, and she’s ready to seize the opportunity if it arises.

Following the announcement by Universal Pictures that they are developing a biopic based on Spears' memoir, The Woman in Me, the buzz around casting has intensified. Felicia Culotta, Spears' former longtime assistant, suggested that Roberts would be a perfect fit to portray the pop icon. Although no official casting decisions have been made, Roberts is already expressing her excitement and willingness to take on the role. In a candid interview with Cosmopolitan published on August 29, Roberts shared, “It’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s just a rumor right now, but I hope it comes true.”

Roberts, who became a mother in late 2020 with ex-boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, has a deep connection to Spears' music. She reminisced about her teenage years, locked away in her room, obsessively memorizing every lyric of Britney's In the Zone album. This nostalgic dedication to Spears’ music even extends to her current life, where she delights in singing Britney’s hits to her young son during bath time. Roberts humorously referred to this as “some millennial parenting” and reflected on her engagement to actor Cody John, which was announced earlier this summer.

The Woman in Me, released in late 2023, provides a comprehensive look at Britney Spears' journey from her beginnings on The Mickey Mouse Club to her status as a global pop sensation in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The memoir delves into her personal struggles, including the highly publicized 13-year conservatorship that created a rift between her and her family—her sister Jamie Lynn Spears, mother Lynne Spears, and father Jamie Spears. This tumultuous period in her life has sparked significant public interest and debate.

The audiobook version of The Woman in Me garnered additional attention with its narration by Michelle Williams, an Oscar-nominated actress known for her powerful performances. The biopic, set to be directed by Jon M. Chu and produced by Marc Platt, who is known for his work on La La Land, is highly anticipated. While a release date for the film remains unannounced, fans are eagerly awaiting any updates on the project and hoping that Emma Roberts will indeed be cast as the iconic pop star.
