This week on a brand-new episode of Frasier, Dr. Crane (played by Kelsey Grammer) faces an unexpected reunion when Bebe Glazer (portrayed by Harriet Sansom Harris) reappears in his life, bringing a surprise with her.
Bebe shows up just as Frasier wraps up his memoir, but she has other plans: she wants him to return to television, the realm of big money. Accompanying Bebe is her daughter, Phoebe (played by Rachel Bloom), who shares many peculiar similarities with Dr. Crane, such as a passion for opera, a penchant for tweed blazers, and an appreciation for the music of Cole Porter.
In an exclusive sneak peek from this week's episode, airing Thursday on Paramount+, Frasier and Phoebe perform an "impromptu" version of Porter's classic song, "You're the Top," from the musical Anything Goes.
Frasier begins to wonder if Phoebe might actually be his daughter with Bebe, the result of a brief affair in the mid-90s. However, questions linger about whether Bebe or Phoebe can truly be trusted.
For Bloom, playing Bebe's daughter was a dream realized, especially since she has long been a devoted fan of Frasier. She expressed her excitement about working with Harris, calling her one of the "greatest characters ever created for television."
Bloom described the experience of acting alongside Grammer and Harris as a "master class," considering the time spent with them a true "gift." She noted the remarkable energy that arises when talented performers genuinely listen and respond to each other.
Having watched every episode of the original Frasier at least three times, Bloom also shares a personal connection to the revival. She is friends with the show's creators, Joe Cristalli and Chris Harris, who previously collaborated with her husband, Dan Gregor, on How I Met Your Mother.
During a visit to the Frasier set last year, Cristalli and Harris hinted at a potential role for Bloom if the show secured a second season, which, thankfully, it did.
Bloom expressed her excitement about portraying Phoebe and hopes to reprise the role if the series gets a third season—though a paternity test might be needed to clarify their relationship.
