Keri Russell recently shared a funny and relatable story about her encounter with Hillary Clinton. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress, known for her role in The Diplomat, admitted that meeting the former Secretary of State was a nerve-wracking experience. Russell revealed that, over the years, her role in the Netflix political thriller has given her the chance to meet various dignitaries, including Clinton, but the encounter left her feeling incredibly nervous.
Describing the moment, Russell said, “I felt like the least interesting and educated person in the room, but it was still amazing.” She recalled being at a dinner in London, surrounded by brilliant and accomplished women, including Clinton, and despite the awe-inspiring company, Russell couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. “I was sweating the entire time,” she admitted, adding that she is "a sweater" by nature.
When Seth Meyers asked about her nerves leading up to the meeting, Russell humorously confessed, “I’m sweating just thinking about it.” To this, Meyers joked, “So you’re already laying out a real otter’s paw,” referring to how sweaty her hands might have been. Russell confirmed, saying she was trying to hide her nervousness by discreetly wiping her hands throughout the event.
In an effort to tackle her sweating issues, Russell even turned to hypnosis in the past, hoping it would help her stay cool under pressure. When Meyers asked if the hypnosis had worked, Russell replied, “I don’t know. I was hypnotized.” Meyers teased her, saying, “The hypnotist probably told you it worked, but you won’t remember!” Russell laughed it off, admitting that while she wasn’t sure of the results, she thought it helped a little.
In the end, she’ll have to wait until her next meeting with Clinton to see if her efforts to control her nerves have paid off. For now, fans can watch Russell discuss her sweating woes in the clip from the interview.
