The Acolyte is canceled after its first season on Disney+. Despite a strong premiere, the Star Wars series won't return. The Mandalorian continues.

The Acolyte will not return for a second season, according to Entertainment Weekly. The Star Wars series, which premiered its eight-episode first season on Disney+ between June and July, has been canceled.

The show starred Amandla Stenberg as twins Osha and Mae, and Lee Jung-jae as Sol, a Jedi Master. The series also featured Manny Jacinto, Charlie Barnett, and Yoda. Set during the final days of the High Republic era, the series centered around an investigation into a series of shocking crimes involving a respected Jedi Master and a dangerous warrior from his past, taking place before the Skywalker movies.

In July, creator Leslye Headland mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that she had not received any updates about the show's future. Despite being hopeful, she found herself reflecting on future stories while trying to enjoy some downtime.

The show's first two episodes, which debuted on June 4, attracted 4.8 million views on its first day, marking it as the biggest series premiere on Disney+ this year. However, viewership declined sharply for subsequent episodes, and while critics gave the series favorable reviews, audience feedback was less positive.

Meanwhile, Disney+ will continue with The Mandalorian, which started in 2019.
