Justin Theroux has recently responded to his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston's public clash with J.D. Vance, the U.S. Senator from Ohio and a candidate for vice president on Donald Trump's ticket. In an interview with the U.K.’s The Times, Theroux shared his feelings about the situation, expressing his ongoing care and protectiveness towards Aniston. “She remains very dear to me, so of course, I feel protective,” Theroux said. “But she responded to the criticism as she should.”
The controversy erupted after Vance made disparaging remarks about certain individuals, referring to them as "a bunch of childless cat ladies." Aniston fired back with a pointed response, addressing Vance’s remarks about in vitro fertilization (IVF). She stated, "Mr. Vance, I hope your daughter will have the opportunity to bear children one day without having to resort to IVF, which you’re trying to make more difficult."
In November 2022, Aniston revealed to Allure the personal challenges she faced with fertility treatments, disclosing that her journey with IVF had been fraught with difficulties and ultimately unsuccessful.
Despite their separation, Theroux has spoken fondly of Aniston. The couple, who were married from 2015 to 2018, have managed to maintain a positive relationship since their split. Theroux mentioned in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, “We don’t talk every day, but we stay in touch through calls, FaceTime, and texts. We didn’t have a dramatic split, and I genuinely cherish our friendship.”
In his personal life, Theroux is now engaged to Nicole Brydon Bloom, whom he has been dating since 2023. PEOPLE confirmed that he proposed in Italy while attending the Venice Film Festival, where he was also promoting his latest film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. This engagement marks a new chapter for Theroux, adding a joyful note to his current life amid his supportive stance towards Aniston.
