Ali Wong firmly believes that turning 40 marks a golden age, particularly when it comes to divorce. In the trailer for her upcoming Netflix comedy special, Ali Wong: Single Lady, the comedian and Emmy winner shares her thoughts on the dating scene post-divorce. She humorously notes that one of the perks of dating 60-year-old men is hearing stories they've already told her, like recounting a half-court shot from 1985.
Set to premiere on October 8, this will be Wong's fourth original special on Netflix. The special reflects on her experiences after separating from her long-time husband, Justin Hakuta, in 2022. As a newly single woman, Wong jokes about the wide age range of potential dates, stating she could consider men from 25 to 55. However, she does have some practical questions for those aged 55: “Can you go on a brisk walk? Can you lift heavy things? Can you digest red meat without feeling ill?”
Since 2023, Wong has been dating fellow comedian and actor Bill Hader. They were seen together at the Emmy Awards and Golden Globes, where Wong’s show, Beef, won several awards. Discussing their relationship on the Emmys red carpet, Wong described them as “selectively private” and acknowledged their status as parents navigating life in their 40s.
Wong not only stars in but also directed and produced the special, which was filmed during her residency at The Wiltern in Los Angeles during the Netflix Is A Joke Fest in May. This new special follows her previous specials: Don Wong (2022), Hard Knock Wife (2018), and Baby Cobra (2016). Additionally, she starred in the Netflix rom-com Always Be My Maybe alongside Randall Park and lent her voice to the series Big Mouth.
