Henry Cavill’s unexpected cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine left him feeling unwell but still committed to his role, according to director Shawn Levy.
Levy recently shared how Cavill's cameo came about, explaining that the actor’s dedication to the role took a toll on his health. "Henry’s involvement came shortly after his departure from DC as Superman," Levy told The New York Times. "We saw an opportunity to cast him in a role where he could really shine and also poke fun at the other comic-book studio with a bit of self-awareness."
In the film, Cavill portrays Logan, dubbed "the Cavillrine" by Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool. Logan appears as Deadpool explores different dimensions searching for a new Wolverine to replace the one who died in 2017’s Logan. Cavill’s Logan is seen smoking a cigar throughout his scene.
Levy was thrilled to see Cavill embrace the role, noting that the actor’s dedication was extraordinary. “Henry kept that cigar lit for the entire shoot day and ended up feeling sick from inhaling smoke for eight hours straight, but he never faltered,” Levy recounted.
Cavill humorously addressed his role on Instagram, sharing a smoky photo and noting, "To be safe, I shaved the mustache off for this one. Just the mustache."
While Cavill’s cameo is among several surprises in Deadpool & Wolverine, not all rumors were accurate. For instance, Percy Jackson star Walker Scobell was set to appear as Kidpool but had grown too quickly. Additionally, the much-talked-about appearance of Taylor Swift was never part of the film, as confirmed by Levy.
One confirmed highlight is the film's post-credits scene featuring Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, who delivers a stream of colorful expletives. Levy revealed that this scene was planned well in advance and was always intended to be the final end-credits moment.
Deadpool & Wolverine is now showing in theaters.
