Lisa Marie Presley's posthumously released memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, offers revealing insights into her private life and that of Michael Jackson. Notably, she claims that Jackson was a virgin at 35 when they began dating.
In the memoir, Presley recounts how, shortly after confiding in her then-husband Danny Keough about Jackson's love confession, she received a call from Jackson asking if she was leaving Danny. After Keough made the decision to leave, Jackson revealed to Presley, "He told me he was still a virgin." She added that Jackson had kissed Tatum O'Neal and briefly dated Brooke Shields, but nothing physical occurred. He also mentioned that Madonna had tried to connect with him, but it didn't go anywhere.
Presley describes feeling "terrified" about making the wrong choice, but when Jackson initiated their first kiss, she was taken by surprise. She had expected they might wait until marriage, but he insisted, "I'm not waiting!"
Presley passed away in 2023 before finishing her memoir, which her daughter, Riley Keough, completed. The book blends Presley's memories with Keough's perspectives. Keough notes that her mother was drawn to Jackson, seeing him as someone who needed fixing, a sentiment she understood well.
In her memoir, Presley reflects on how both she and Jackson were thrust into the spotlight as children, making them feel connected. She reminisces about their early relationship, staying up late talking and watching movies like Jaws, sharing their childhood experiences.
Presley first met Jackson as a child, but the memorable encounter was in 1993, right after his iconic Super Bowl halftime show and his interview with Oprah Winfrey. During that interview, Winfrey directly asked Jackson about his virginity. He responded, "How could you ask that question? I'm a gentleman," adding that his sexual life was private.
In From Here to the Great Unknown, Presley emphasizes their strong connection, stating, "No one had ever seen that side of [Jackson]. He wasn't that high-pitched, calculated thing. That was an act."
She also recalls the 1993 molestation allegations against Jackson, which were settled out of court, and subsequent charges in the early 2000s that led to a trial in 2005. Jackson faced multiple counts, including lewd acts with a minor, but was acquitted of all charges.
"I never saw a goddamn thing like that," Presley asserts regarding the allegations. She and Jackson married in 1994 and divorced in 1996, citing irreconcilable differences.
