Watch Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan in the A Complete Unknown trailer. The biopic explores Dylan’s rise in the 1960s, featuring historic NYC landmarks.

Gather around, everyone, because the teaser trailer for A Complete Unknown has just dropped!

In this first look at James Mangold’s upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, Timothée Chalamet embodies the legendary singer-songwriter, performing Dylan’s 1962 classic, “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” in front of a large crowd. Remarkably, it’s Chalamet himself singing the track—he took vocal lessons to give his unique take on Dylan’s iconic music.

In the trailer, Edward Norton, who plays folk singer Pete Seeger, introduces a pivotal moment: “A few months back, my friend Woody Guthrie and I met a young man. He played us a song, and in that moment, we glimpsed the future.”

Chalamet is also shown exploring major New York City landmarks from Dylan’s life, such as Cafe Wha?, where Dylan performed his first gig, and the Chelsea Hotel. As Dylan’s fame rises, he gets entangled in a love triangle involving his first love Sylvie Russo (Elle Fanning) and fellow folk singer Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro).

The film, which was shot in NYC earlier this year, is set in the early 1960s and charts 19-year-old Bob Dylan’s rapid rise to fame, culminating in his historic performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Mangold described the period as “an amazing time in American culture” and highlighted Dylan’s transformation from a young musician with just two dollars to a global sensation.

A Complete Unknown also features Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie, Charlie Tahan as Al Kooper, and Dan Fogler as Dylan’s manager, Albert Grossman.

The film hits theaters this December. Watch the trailer above.
