Ariana DeBose stars in the thrilling sci-fi film I.S.S., set on the International Space Station. Watch the trailer before its January 19 release!

Ariana DeBose is gearing up for a space adventure.

The Oscar-winning actress from is heading to outer space to star in the gripping thriller I.S.S., directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite. The film premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival, and ahead of its theatrical release on January 19, Blecker Street has released the first trailer. This sci-fi thriller is set within the claustrophobic confines of the International Space Station (ISS).

Set in the near future, the film begins with a seemingly harmonious setup aboard the ISS, where American astronauts (played by DeBose, Chris Messina, and John Gallagher Jr.) share cramped quarters with their Russian counterparts (portrayed by Masha Mashkova, Pilou Asbæk, and Costa Ronin). The crew initially bonds over their shared scientific goals.

However, when a massive war erupts on Earth, the American astronauts receive new orders from mission control: to take control of the space station "by any means necessary."

Though DeBose is widely recognized for her work on Broadway and in musical films like , and the recent Disney animated feature Wish, this film marks her foray into the sci-fi genre. I.S.S. follows her and her fellow astronauts as they fight for survival in space.

I.S.S. is set to hit theaters on January 19. Watch the trailer above.
