Although Bill Skarsgård’s full portrayal as the vampiric Count Orlok isn't fully revealed in the first Nosferatu trailer, his chilling presence is unmistakable.
The trailer, presented at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, previews a nightmarish reimagining of the classic 1922 Dracula tale, helmed by renowned horror director Robert Eggers (known for The Witch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman).
The footage introduces Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, the ill-fated object of Orlok’s predatory interest. Set across Transylvania and Germany, the story follows estate agent Thomas Hutter (played by Nicholas Hoult from The Menu), who becomes entangled with Orlok, a bloodthirsty vampire fixated on Hutter’s wife. Ellen suffers disturbing dreams and visions inflicted by Orlok, though the trailer only offers a fleeting glimpse of Skarsgård’s Orlok from behind as he feasts.
In a recent interview, Skarsgård described the role as mentally taxing, likening it to summoning pure evil. He noted that embodying the character took a toll on him, echoing his previous transformative role as Pennywise in the It movies. For this role, Skarsgård even worked with an opera coach to deepen his voice significantly. Eggers praised Skarsgård’s dedication, noting the transformation is so complete that it might appear digitally enhanced, though it's a result of Skarsgård’s efforts.
Willem Dafoe joins the cast as Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, a "crazy vampire hunter," while Ralph Ineson plays Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, described as the "Watson" to Dafoe’s Holmes. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Emma Corrin will also appear as friends of the Hutters, Friedrich and Anna Harding.
Nosferatu is set to hit theaters this Christmas. Watch the trailer above.
