One Tree Hill sequel confirmed! Original stars return in new Netflix series, set 20 years later. Fans eagerly await the drama and nostalgia.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that a sequel series to the beloved teen drama is officially in development. The new show is set to premiere on Netflix, with original stars Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, and Danneel Ackles returning to their iconic roles. Warner Bros. Television will be handling production for this highly anticipated revival.

Netflix has yet to issue a statement regarding the new series, and EW has also reached out to Warner Bros. Television as well as the returning stars for more details.

One Tree Hill originally aired in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, and became known for its dramatic twists and turns. The series began with the intense dynamics between feuding brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott, and their best friends Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis. Ackles made a memorable entrance in Season 4 as Rachel, who started off as a rival to Brooke but eventually became a close friend.

The show was renowned for its focus on love triangles, high school drama, and the pressures of adolescence. However, in Season 5, One Tree Hill jumped forward four and a half years, exploring the characters' lives after college. The new series will continue the story 20 years after the original show's finale, offering fans a chance to catch up with their favorite characters as they navigate new life challenges and milestones.

There’s no word yet on whether the sequel will touch on some of the show’s more outlandish storylines, such as the notorious plot involving Dan, the brothers' father. In that storyline, Dan needed a heart transplant, but the operation was thwarted when the heart fell out of its cooler and was eaten by a dog—a moment that has since become one of the show’s most talked-about plot twists.

The revival of One Tree Hill marks Netflix’s second foray into reviving a WB/CW series, following the success of Gilmore Girls, which returned with the sequel series A Year in the Life in 2016. Fans of the original show are eagerly anticipating how the sequel will capture the magic and drama that made the series a hit for nine seasons.
