Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn reunited at the DNC, delivering a powerful speech and engaging with the crowd. Celebrities like Oprah and John Legend also shined.

Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn, known for their roles as Olivia Pope and President Fitzgerald Grant on Scandal, reunited on stage during the convention’s final night on Thursday.

Earlier, it was announced that Washington would be a special host on Thursday, the day Vice President Kamala Harris officially accepted the Democratic presidential nomination. Goldwyn had already appeared as a host on Monday.

When Washington took the stage in Chicago on Thursday, she started alone. She delivered a powerful speech addressing any criticism about her presence at the DNC as an actor.

"As I stand here, I know some on social media might say, ‘Go back to your TV show! Be quiet and act,’" Washington stated. "But I am not here tonight as an actor. I am here as a mother, a daughter, a proud union member, and the granddaughter of immigrants. I am here as a Black woman descended from enslaved people. I am here because I am an American and a voter, and our strength comes from having all our voices heard.”

She then told the energized crowd that they were the true stars of the evening. "You are the messengers. You are the fixers, dare I say, you are the Olivia Popes," she said, referencing her Scandal character.

Washington encouraged the audience to take out their phones to capture the moment. When she asked someone to bring her phone, Goldwyn made a surprise appearance, perfectly timed. The pair filmed themselves chanting the first part of Harris's campaign slogan, "When we fight," with the crowd completing it with "we win!"

"Are you ready for Kamala Harris to win?" Washington asked. "Good, because when Kamala wins, America wins!" She thanked Goldwyn and playfully ushered him off the stage.

Washington and Goldwyn were among many celebrities at the DNC this week. Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Ana Navarro, the Chicks, and Lil Jon also made appearances. Outside the convention, John Legend and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts performed, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus, known for her role as a vice president on Veep, hosted a panel with female governors.
