Discover the trailer for We Live in Time, featuring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. A dramatic romance with intense moments and a touch of humor. In theaters October 11.

The romantic storyline between Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh begins with a dramatic twist.

A24 has just unveiled the first trailer for We Live in Time, showcasing their characters meeting under extraordinary circumstances. In the trailer, Tobias (played by Garfield) wakes up in a hospital bed with a neck brace, puzzled about the location of his underpants, while Almut (played by Pugh) comforts him from a distance. He awkwardly asks, “Do we know each other?”

Almut hesitates and then admits, “I ran you over. Sorry.” Tobias responds, “It’s all right.”

The trailer then cuts to a scene where, after what appears to be a passionate night, Tobias, in his underwear, is at Almut’s house, saying, “Probably ought to get going.” Almut tries to persuade him to stay, and he reveals he has nothing to do, feeling relieved.

As the trailer progresses, it flashes between joyful moments between Tobias and Almut, including a walk in the park, a dinner party, and a kiss in the kitchen. Tobias reflects on their relationship, saying, “Whether we like it or not, the clock is ticking.” Almut questions the urgency, and Tobias admits, “I am worried that there’s a very distinct and real possibility that I am about to fall in love with you.”

The trailer then shifts to more intense scenes: Almut is seen in a doctor’s office with a shaved head, indicating a serious medical condition, and later, she discovers she is pregnant. The footage also shows the couple enjoying carnival rides, giving birth, dancing in a club, ice skating, and spending time with their young daughter.

Almut expresses her desire to avoid wasting time, saying, “I’m not interested in a treatment that accidentally wastes our time,” but later shows emotional vulnerability when Tobias asks why she’s willing to take risks. She tearfully responds, “I can’t bear the thought of being forgotten.”

The trailer ends on a lighter note with Tobias struggling to parallel park and bumping into the car in front of him. Given the emotional tone of the rest of the trailer, this might be the only moment of levity in the film.

Pugh shared her excitement about the film on Instagram, calling the experience of making it "unbelievably beautiful" and expressing her pride in its upcoming release.

Directed by John Crowley, We Live in Time is Pugh’s latest addition to her impressive list of projects, including Midsommar, Little Women, Black Widow, Don’t Worry Darling, Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two. Garfield, who was recently nominated for an Oscar and Emmy, also starred in Spider-Man: No Way Home, one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

We Live in Time will be released in theaters on October 11.
