Bachelor fans were stunned when ABC announced that Grant, recently eliminated from The Bachelorette, will be the next star of The Bachelor Season 29.
Just after Grant, a 30-year-old day trader from Newark, left the show heartbroken, ABC revealed he would lead the upcoming season of The Bachelor. This announcement came only a week after viewers saw him on a romantic one-on-one date with Bachelorette Jenn Tran in New Zealand. Despite confessing his love for Jenn and seeing a future with her, Jenn did not reciprocate his feelings.
In his exit interview, Grant expressed his disappointment, saying, “I want a family. I want to be happy. I want a life. I want to be in love.” This is a rare move for Bachelor Nation since it’s unusual to announce the next Bachelor while the current season of The Bachelorette is still airing. Nick Viall’s announcement in 2016, while still on Bachelor in Paradise, did not involve significant romantic connections at that time.
Throughout this season, Grant shared personal details about his upbringing, including his father’s struggles with substance abuse. He managed to stay out of the men’s drama and tried various Australian foods, including Vegemite and kangaroo testicles.
Grant, who is a “mama’s boy” with a love for poetry, reading, bowling, karaoke, and salsa dancing, will be the second Black lead of The Bachelor. His season is set to premiere in January 2025.
