Nicky Doll, a star from RuPaul’s Drag Race and host of Drag Race France, is taking legal action against British actor and conservative activist Laurence Fox. Fox had criticized a group of drag performers, including Nicky, who appeared in the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. He referred to them as "deviant little pedos" on social media.
Nicky Doll performed in the ceremony’s "Festivity" segment, intended to celebrate diversity and inclusion. This segment faced backlash from some conservatives who felt it mocked Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic painting The Last Supper. However, Olympics artistic director Thomas Jolly clarified that the scene was inspired by Greek mythology.
Fox condemned the performance on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "No point in getting wound up when the child f---ers want to wind you up. Just laugh at the deviant little pedos. Eternity is a bitch."
In response, Nicky Doll shared Fox’s remarks and stated, "Since you didn't learn the first time around when you called my friend @crystalwillseeu a pedo, I'm going to show you that you don't get to write things like that about queer people for the fun and the misinformation of it and go away with it. See you in court, again, @LozzaFox!"
Following this, Nicky’s lawyer, Anne-Sophie Laguens, announced that they had "filed a defamation complaint [against] Mr. Laurence Fox and other users of the social platform X (ex-Twitter)." The press release highlighted that Nicky Doll has faced an "unprecedented wave of hate and nastiness," including death threats, since her performance. The release condemned any suggestions that Nicky’s performance promotes pedophilia as "serious and unacceptable."
Nicky Doll emphasized on her X account, "I will never again allow myself and other queer people to be defamed and demonized. If responding with love doesn't work for some, then responding with justice should work. See you in court."
This lawsuit follows a similar case where Crystal, a star from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK season 1, and former Stonewall chair Simon Blake, won a libel case against Fox. Fox had defamed them by falsely labeling them as pedophiles. Fox had countersued for being called racist, but his case was dismissed.
Crystal expressed that while she "took no joy" in the lawsuit, she hoped it would address the harmful use of the pedophilia trope against queer individuals. She noted that such accusations have led to physical threats and safety concerns.
Nicky Doll made history as the first-ever French contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race in season 12 and now hosts Drag Race France. Fox was last seen as Hunter Biden in the 2022 film My Son Hunter, distributed by Breitbart News.
