Among the numerous cameos and guest stars in Deadpool & Wolverine, there were a few surprising omissions. One notable absence was Taylor Swift, and another was Walker Scobell, the star of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Scobell first gained recognition by starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in the 2022 film The Adam Project, which was directed by Shawn Levy, the same director behind Deadpool & Wolverine. In this film, Scobell portrayed a younger version of Reynolds' character, and his enthusiasm for Deadpool was evident. He even memorized Reynolds' "f--- Wolverine" speech from Deadpool 2, as shown in an Entertainment Weekly video.
Given his connection to Reynolds and his love for Deadpool, many fans expected Scobell to play Kidpool, a younger version of Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine. Both Levy and Reynolds thought he would be a great fit, but it didn’t work out. Levy explained the situation in an interview with EW.
Levy stated, “Walker Scobell would have been ideal for Kidpool if he hadn’t gone through puberty. It was his dream role. Ryan and I reached out to him when we realized he was now too old—his height and voice had changed. Unfortunately, puberty is inevitable. We explained this to Walker, and he was very understanding.”
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Kidpool appears among various Deadpool variants from different realities, including Blake Lively as Lady Deadpool, Nathan Fillion as Headpool (a floating zombie head), Matthew McConaughey as Cowboy Deadpool, Paul Mullin as Welshpool, Olin, Reynolds and Lively’s son, as Babypool, and Harry Holland, Tom Holland’s brother, as another Deadpool variant.
Instead of Scobell, Kidpool is voiced by Inez, the 7-year-old daughter of Reynolds and Lively.
Now 15, Scobell attended the New York City premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, where he met up with his The Adam Project co-stars. Levy fondly recalled, “My long hug with Walker at the premiere was one of the highlights of that night.”
Additionally, Levy discussed another missed cameo involving Vinnie Jones, known for playing Juggernaut in X-Men: The Last Stand. However, this idea didn’t materialize, and Andrew W. Reed ended up portraying the helmeted colossus in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Meanwhile, Scobell continues to shine as Percy Jackson in the adaptation of Rick Riordan's YA series. At Comic-Con, he remarked, “The upcoming season feels older, more comfortable, yet still different.”
