Although Disney initially kept Jacinto’s role in the Freaky Friday sequel under wraps, Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have now confirmed that Jacinto will play Anna's husband. In the original film, Anna, portrayed by Lohan, swapped bodies with her mother, Tess, due to a magical curse.
“Manny will be Lindsay’s husband, but that’s all we can reveal at the moment,” Curtis shared with Entertainment Weekly, noting that the project is still in production.
Lohan described Jacinto as "charming" and "hilarious" in his new role.
Chad Michael Murray, who previously played Lohan’s love interest, will return as Jake in the sequel. Disney recently unveiled a new image of Murray in character, now with a fresh motorcycle.
“Chad’s definitely back, and he’s really involved,” Curtis teased about Murray’s return.
Despite Curtis’s mention of Jacinto as Anna’s spouse, the film’s official synopsis, directed by Nisha Ganatra and penned by Jordan Weiss, only hints at Anna having "a daughter and a future stepdaughter" facing the challenges of merging families.
Casting calls previously suggested that Anna, described as a "longtime single mom," is about to marry British restaurateur Eric Davis, creating friction with her "tomboy" daughter, Harper.
In addition to Lohan, Curtis, and Murray, several original cast members will return, including Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao.
The original Freaky Friday, directed by Mark Waters, was a major success for Disney, grossing over $160 million globally. The sequel, Freakier Friday, is scheduled to premiere in theaters in 2025.
