The new trailer for Sony’s R-rated film, Kraven the Hunter, showcases Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Kraven, an antihero facing off against the Rhino, played by Alessandro Nivola. In the footage, Kraven, also known as Sergei Kravinoff, takes on his adversary from atop a cargo truck. The Rhino flips the truck, sending Kraven into a frenzied wildebeest stampede.
Nivola’s portrayal of the Rhino presents a fierce new version compared to Paul Giamatti’s depiction in Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). This Rhino isn’t just armored; he transforms into a formidable rhino-man hybrid with remarkable strength.
Kraven’s violence extends beyond the Rhino. After escaping prison, he launches a brutal rampage, employing bear traps, snapping necks, and even using a tree stump to violently split a man in half.
Kraven’s family is troubled by his extreme methods. His half-brother Dmitri (portrayed by Fred Hechinger) criticizes him, equating him to their father. This topic hits a nerve for Kraven, who rejected their father Nikolai’s harsh teachings after a traumatic encounter with a lion during his youth. The trailer also introduces Ariana DeBose as Calypso, a Spider-Man comic villain who questions Kraven’s savage actions.
This isn’t Johnson’s first superhero role; he previously played Quicksilver in Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
Kraven the Hunter is the fifth origin film in Sony’s Spider-Man universe, alongside Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Tom Hardy’s Venom, Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web, and Jared Leto’s Morbius. Directed by J.C. Chandor, it will premiere in theaters on December 13. Check out the trailer above.
