Saoirse Ronan reflects on missing the role of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter, her Oscar journey, and the humor in being a "household of losers."

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Saoirse Ronan opened up about her regret over not being cast in the Harry Potter series. Specifically, she expressed her disappointment at missing the chance to play the whimsical Luna Lovegood, a role that ultimately went to Evanna Lynch. Ronan mentioned that this particular missed opportunity has lingered in her mind.

Reflecting on the experience, she said, "There are times when you pass on roles, and later you think, 'Wow, that was a mistake.'" For her, not securing the role of Luna Lovegood stands out, as she clarified, "I didn’t reject it; I simply didn’t get the part." She noted that numerous Irish actors auditioned for the character, and she recognized her age was a factor in not being cast.

Lynch first introduced her version of Luna in the fifth installment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, released in 2007, the same year Ronan appeared in Atonement. In that film, she portrayed the younger sibling of Keira Knightley, which earned her first Oscar nomination at just 13.

Currently, Ronan is attracting Oscar attention once again for her role in The Outrun, where she plays a woman confronting her troubled history. While chatting with Kimmel, she humorously referred to herself as "four-time loser" at the Oscars and mentioned her husband, Jack Lowden, who recently faced disappointment at the Emmys.

Ronan lightheartedly remarked, "We’re a household of losers," and shared how they've become accustomed to the idea of not winning. She even joked about planning to visit the bar after the awards to enjoy some popcorn and relax, regardless of their outcomes.

Cuando se le preguntó si a Lowden le molestaban sus suposiciones, se rió y respondió: "Él sabía que iba a perder". Enfatizó que ambos tienen bajas expectativas sobre sí mismos.

When asked if Lowden was bothered by her assumptions, she laughed and replied, "He knew he was going to lose." She emphasized that they both maintain low expectations for themselves. For more details about Ronan, viewers can check out her full interview above.
