Selena Gomez opens up about her struggles with infertility and bipolar disorder. Discover her empowering message at the Women in Film event and more.

Selena Gomez has expressed her frustration towards those who have criticized her after she shared that she cannot carry her own children. During a recent event for Women in Film, the star of Only Murders in the Building emphasized the importance of honesty and vulnerability.

"I truly believe in the power of being open and asking for help when needed. There’s nothing shameful about it," she stated. "Yes, I shared that I can't carry a child. Yes, I mentioned that I have bipolar disorder. F--- off! That’s my reality."

Gomez first publicly addressed her situation in a recent Vanity Fair profile, revealing, "I’ve never said this before, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have various medical issues that could endanger both my life and the baby's. It was something I had to mourn for a while."

Diagnosed with lupus in 2013, she underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 due to complications from the illness. In 2020, she disclosed her bipolar disorder diagnosis and mentioned in 2022 that her medication might impact her ability to have children.

"I want to be an advocate for women, and that’s why I share my experiences," Gomez explained at the event. "I like being honest because everyone faces challenges. I don’t have everything figured out."

Encouraging those present, she said, "I'm just being myself, and that’s all I can do. Don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t a good person or kind. That is truly admirable. Anyone who says you’re a victim — you're a survivor, in my eyes."

Currently, Gomez stars in season 4 of Only Murders in the Building and is set to reprise her iconic role of Alex Russo in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, premiering on October 29. Additionally, she appears in Emilia Pérez, for which she won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, alongside co-stars Karla Sofía Gascón, Adriana Paz, and Zoe Saldaña. The film will have a limited theatrical release starting November 1 before becoming available on Netflix on November 13.
