In a recent chat with PEOPLE, longtime friends Brad Pitt and George Clooney joked about their past wins as Sexiest Man Alive. Both have received the title twice, and when asked who should win in 2024, Pitt humorously suggested Clooney as "Sexiest Man Still Alive." Clooney responded by saying he had tried to get AARP to crown Pitt with that title but ended up with just a T-shirt instead.
Pitt was first named Sexiest Man Alive in 1995, followed by Clooney in 1997 and again in 2000, with Pitt returning for the title in 2006. In his memoir, director Edward Zwick, who worked with Pitt on Legends of the Fall, shared that Pitt wasn’t thrilled about the title and was described as “edgy” on set.
During his 2006 cover story, Clooney shared insights into his views on dating, admitting that he wasn’t fond of the media attention, saying his ideal first date would involve avoiding getting photographed.
Other stars, like Richard Gere and Johnny Depp, have also been named Sexiest Man Alive twice. The most recent winner, Patrick Dempsey, followed Mel Gibson, who first received the title in 1985. Currently, PEOPLE is holding a poll to decide the 2024 winner, with nominees such as Nicholas Galatzine, Manny Jacinto, and previous winners like Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
Pitt and Clooney, who have appeared in eight films together since their 2001 debut in Ocean’s Eleven, are now promoting their new action-comedy Wolfs, in which they play lone-wolf fixers resolving a political crisis. Director Jon Watts mentioned that their close friendship in real life makes audiences want to see their characters as friends on-screen too.
