At Google's Pixel 9 event, the Gemini Live demo failed twice before succeeding on a backup phone. Discover the behind-the-scenes struggle and success.

At Google's Pixel 9 launch event, live demos can often be unpredictable, especially with a large audience watching. Presenters Jess Carpenter and Dave Citron faced a tense moment when their Gemini demo failed twice. Thankfully, the demo succeeded on the third try.

Gemini Struggled with Calendar, Tasks, and Keep

Dave Citron attempted to demonstrate the new Gemini Advanced on a Galaxy S24 Ultra. He used the phone to photograph a concert poster and asked the assistant to check his calendar for availability during the artist's San Francisco visit. Unfortunately, the demo encountered issues on the first attempt.

On the second try, Gemini Advanced failed again, showing an error message: “Something went wrong, please try again (13).” Despite the setbacks, Dave managed to maintain his composure. On his third attempt, Gemini Advanced worked successfully, and the audience applauded after a brief period of awkwardness.

It’s notable that the demo eventually worked on a different device, indicating possible problems with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Dave's foresight to have a backup phone was crucial in overcoming this challenge.
