Hyper Light Breaker delayed to early next year for polish. Heart Machine aims to perfect the 3D rogue-lite experience in a fantasy-cyberpunk world.

Fans of Hyper Light Drifter will need to wait a bit longer for the sequel. Heart Machine has announced a delay for the Steam Early Access launch of Hyper Light Breaker, which is now scheduled for early next year. The developer revealed that, after discussions with its publisher Arc Games, it needs additional time to refine the gameplay experience. While specific issues were not disclosed, Heart Machine emphasized that they want to ensure the game meets their high standards and avoid overworking their team.

Heart Machine stated, "…we REALLY need to make sure that the core foundational units of the game are as strong as they can be, so that we can build on them during the Early Access period." The studio initially planned for a spring 2023 release when the game was first announced two years ago. Since then, the launch date has been postponed several times, with the most recent target being this summer, by which time a preview was available.

Hyper Light Breaker is an action rogue-lite set in a 3D open-world environment, a departure from the 2D visuals of its predecessor. The game is set in a fantasy-cyberpunk universe, where players can explore the Overgrowth landscape and engage in online co-op with friends. Engadget Senior Editor Jessica Conditt described it as a "hoverboard sim" in her hands-on preview, highlighting its feature of gliding through the world on a hoverboard, which allows players to avoid combat and take in the scenery.
