According to Rob Lowe, actors can be categorized into two types: the Jeff Bridges type and the Jared Leto type. On his Sirius XM show, Literally! with Rob Lowe, he discussed this while asking Bridges about his experience filming Tron: Ares.
Lowe noted that he and Bridges belong to a group of actors who focus on their craft without much artifice. In contrast, he mentioned that Leto, who plays the character Ares in the upcoming film, takes on his roles very intensely. For example, when Leto portrayed the Joker, he stayed in character, which was confirmed by a friend of Lowe’s who worked closely with him.
Bridges, reprising his role as Kevin Flynn, shared that he was curious about Leto’s approach since Leto had been a producer on the film and was deeply invested in it for many years. He noted that every film set has its own vibe, and he wondered how Leto was working. When he asked about Leto, he learned that Leto preferred to be called by his character's name, which intrigued Bridges.
Bridges enjoys building rapport with fellow actors to create a relaxed environment on set. However, he found it challenging to connect with Leto at first. He ended up calling Leto "Air," a playful nickname derived from his character's name, which helped them bond and collaborate more comfortably.
Lowe was surprised to discover that Leto, the frontman of 30 Seconds to Mars, also had musical elements in his character, Ares. Bridges, who is also a musician, hinted at some intriguing music scenes in the film, expressing his excitement about Leto's performance and their creative collaboration.
Tron: Ares is set to be a standalone sequel to Tron: Legacy and features a diverse cast, including Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins. The film is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025.
