Zach Braff reveals shock at winning a Grammy for the Garden State soundtrack over Quentin Tarantino and shares how it still resonates with fans today.

Zach Braff was shocked to win a Grammy for the Garden State soundtrack, especially considering he was up against Quentin Tarantino. In a recent oral history of the film's soundtrack by The Ringer, Braff recounted his disbelief about winning. He had told his father not to bother attending the awards, convinced that Tarantino, the director of Kill Bill: Volume 2, would take home the prize.

To Braff's surprise, he did win. The soundtrack, which featured tracks like "Caring Is Creepy" and "New Slang" by The Shins, Frou Frou's "Let Go," and Iron & Wine's "Such Great Heights," resonated with fans beyond the movie’s audience. Braff reflected on the win with amazement, recalling Tarantino's playful comment: "You stole my f---ing Grammy, man," followed by a supportive hug. Tarantino's own soundtrack for Kill Bill: Volume 2 included a diverse range of songs, from country to rock.

Braff also mentioned how the Virgin Megastore in New York City's Union Square became overwhelmed by the demand for the Garden State soundtrack. They eventually had to put up a sign stating they were out of stock.

Despite his initial doubts, Braff acknowledged the soundtrack's significant impact and its continued relevance, noting how often people still reference the film and its music in their lives.
