Akili McDowell, known for his roles in the drama series David Makes Man and Billions, has been arrested and charged with murder following a fatal shooting in Houston.

The 21-year-old actor was booked into Harris County Jail on August 1, facing charges of murder and theft. He is scheduled to appear in court for the theft charge on Tuesday and for the murder charge on October 9.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, the shooting took place on July 20 in the parking lot of an apartment complex in East Harris County. The victim, identified as Cesar Peralta, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100.

McDowell gained fame for his role in David Makes Man, where he played a gifted student seeking to escape poverty in Florida. The series, created by Tarell Alvin McCraney (known for Moonlight), also featured Phylicia Rashad and Isaiah Johnson.

In addition to his role in David Makes Man, McDowell appeared as Savion Williams in Billions and Zavier Gibbs in The Astronaut Wives Club. His film credits include Criminal Activities, starring John Travolta, and The Waterboyz.
