No Tour, No Cry: Just days before Lauryn Hill and the Fugees were set to kick off their much-anticipated tour, Ticketmaster abruptly canceled all of the tour dates. The sudden change has left fans in the dark, as no explanation has been provided. Representatives from both the Fugees and LiveNation have yet to comment on the situation.
Lauryn Hill’s latest tweet, shared in June, was meant to drum up excitement for the tour. Meanwhile, Wyclef Jean’s recent tweet from July 21 expressed his intention to step away from Twitter, referring to it as "unplugging from the Matrix for a while." The cancellation is particularly disappointing for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the Fugees' reunion. Since the release of their seminal album The Score in 1996, the group has only reunited on rare occasions. Hill’s solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, released in 1998, remains one of the most celebrated hip-hop albums ever, yet she has not followed up with a new release.
The tour was originally announced last year to mark the 25th anniversary of Hill's iconic album. The Fugees joined her for select performances, including a notable appearance at the Global Citizen Festival in New York City. However, Hill had to cancel a planned October show in Philadelphia at the last minute, citing vocal rest as the reason. This show was later rescheduled for November 25, but the rest of the tour was then postponed until 2024.
In June 2024, Hill and the Fugees announced a new co-headlining tour set to start on August 9 in Tampa, FL, with U.S. dates continuing through September and European dates following in October and November. It now seems unlikely this tour will proceed as planned.
In addition to frequent cancellations, Hill is known for her notorious lateness to performances. During a concert in Los Angeles on November 5, 2023, she remarked on the challenges she faces while performing, stating that she does it out of a sense of duty.
Frustration among fans is growing. One Twitter user, @big_business_, remarked, "If you bought tickets to a Lauryn Hill show in 2024, you deserve everything that happened to you." Another user, @kiraalex, added, "I want somebody to believe in me the way Lauryn Hill ticket holders believe they'll get to see her perform."
